Tremendous read. Pastor gives us all a call to honor the Holy Spirit as the scripture designed. Pastor John does not deal in grey areas just truth of the gospel.

Outsdanding!!!
Weak

Very weak theology from a very good theologian. MacArthur is right when he suggests that the Charismatic Movement has a problem with excesses and general wackiness. But his book fails to make his argument. No one coming to the scripture for the first time would conclude that God stopped working supernaturally for and through his people after a generation or so.
From a Reformed Continuist

This may be MacArthur's best book yet. I picked it up as a skeptic, but I'm now reconsidering my position regarding cessationism. I came out of seminary being told MacArthur wasn't a giant scholar in the league of Carson, etc. I was taught to read MacArthur with suspicion, because of his highly inflammatory nature. But, all these presuppositions aside, the book is remarkably Word centered. There are very, very few proof texts, and his footnotes are abundant. I couldn't recommend this book highly enough!
Great book

A book that truly honors the word of God

If you have someone who is within the charismatic movement or who struggles modern thoughts about the gifts of the Spirit or such doctrines this is a great book for them to read.
This book exposes the lies and gross neglect and abuse of Scripture by many who call themselves Christians.
This book has helped me to realize that the truth does indeed matter. You cannot simply believe what you want to believe. But we must go back to the Scriptures for our doctrine and to the Scripture alone.
Finally

Having been a member of church during the Toronto blessing and witnessing for years the madness in the Charismatic movement, the deafening silence comes to an end. Finally some who has the courage to speak out agianst the wealthy and powerful aberrant teachers. I am tired of Christianity is defined by TBN and the host heretics.
