Description

From New York Times bestselling author Mira Grant comes a vision of a decade in the future, where humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease.

We owe our good health to a humble parasite — a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the Intestinal Bodyguard worm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system — even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.

But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives . . . and will do anything to get them.

"A riveting near-future medical thriller that reads like the genetically-engineered love child of Robin Cook and Michael Crichton." —John Joseph Adams

I like the premise but book is so poorly written. Cries out for a competent editor.

A great suspenseful book for young adults and older. It kept me reading on the edge of my seat. A wonderful read for long trips. Overall amazing from start to finish.

Poorly written. Builds to climax then ends at the big "reveal" so you have to look for next book. Waste of time. Read something else.

Just as Mira Grant pulled me into the Newsflesh Series, I am completely entangled in the story of the Parasitology series from book one! I've always appreciated the level of educated language and mature subject matter in Grant's books and this was no different. Usually I am a very fast reader, so I very much enjoyed this longer book. I can't wait to read it again and read the next in the series!

This is a great beginning to a new Mira Grant series and I'm already excited about the next one. That said, the Newsflash trilogy is in my all time top 3 books/series and this book is missing something essential that those had in spades: I don't love any of these characters. The characters are well-rounded and well-developed, but missing the raw emotions of Shawn and Georgia and friends. I recommend this book, but would also suggest starting with the completed series first.
  • Superbly Written! An excellent read. . .

Grant has made something truly great with this work. She's effectively written a book that is scientifically intriguing, yet also sweeps you up into the story-line. I found the intermittent breaks with the book quotes to be both refreshing and frustrating, but they provided the reader with a lot of background. Overall, a good book. Buy it, read it!

I’ve been a big fan of Mira Grant’s work since I read her Newsflesh trilogy. Parasite doesn’t disappoint. Even the bunch of scientific terms don’t make the story any less edgier. Not only is the writing style excellent, but the story is a riveting, edge of the seat (or turn the page) thriller that will not disappoint. And of course, who doesn’t love a twist at the end, eh! Can’t wait for the next part!
