Description

Buster “Rant” Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life. With hilarity, horror, and blazing insight, Rant is a mind-bending vision of the future, as only Chuck Palahniuk could ever imagine.

Reviews

  • Not the worst, but not the best

Picked up a later Palahniuk work to see whether I could still be entertained as I was with his earlier stuff. Kept asking why he didn’t just write it as straight prose, the dialogue narrative could have been handled better, didn’t really add charm to the book. Characters jumping on and off like a merry go round also made it kind of confusing. Best to stick with the old Palahniuk and not Rant or his later works that seem like displays of a One Trick Pony. Of course, the trick near the end was—as it always is with Palahniuk—entertaining and clever.

Always felt like the world were filled with sheep. These reviews but strengthen the sentiment. This book is terrible. The author, a joke. I don't understand the allure. Unnecessarily and overly grotesque. Characters conjure visions of druggie losers going nowhere. Leave this trash were in belongs. Out of sight. Out of mind.

A typical Palahniuk book.... it starts slow, and you don't know where he's taking you.... but by the time you get to the end, you have to read it again to truly understand everything that happened in the beginning. The twists are always surprising and never fail to entertain.
  • Cool interview style

The entire book is written in an interview style where you get to see various people's perspective on one subject or story. Great way to involve the reader as you piece together what's really going on.
  • End: Mind blowing

Its interesting that this world makes much more sense after reading any given Chuck P book. His literary gift is mesmerizing and prompts even the most avid reader to step-up the pace! "Rant" pulls references from medicine to plagues, etymology to anthropology; even the book itself resembles the Bible in symbolism and style. I would be hard pressed to find another author who could match the same caliber of writing as Chuck has done in "Rant".

It takes a few pages to get used the style this book is written. It's a good book with a classic Chuck twist. It was fun to read and I recommend it to anyone who likes his work and wants an a pretty quick fun read.
