Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown delivers a riveting thriller in which a conflict of conscience for a former football star and an ambitious state prosecutor swiftly intensifies into a fight for their lives.

Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Zach Bridger hasn’t seen his ex-wife, Rebecca Pratt, for some time—not since their volatile marriage imploded—so he’s shocked to receive a life-altering call about her. Rebecca has been placed on life support after a violent assault, and he—despite their divorce—has medical power-of-attorney. Zach is asked to make an impossible choice: keep her on life support or take her off of it. Buckling under the weight of the responsibility and the glare of public scrutiny, Zach ultimately walks away, letting Rebecca's parents have the final say.

Four years later, Rebecca's attacker, Eban—the scion of a wealthy family in Atlanta—gets an early release from prison. The ludicrous miscarriage of justice reeks of favoritism, and Kate Lennon, a brilliant state prosecutor, is determined to put him back behind bars. Rebecca’s parents have kept her alive all these years, but if her condition were to change—if she were to die—Eban could be retried on a new charge: murder.

It isn’t lost on Zach that in order for Eban to be charged with Rebecca’s murder, Zach must actually be the one to kill her. He rejects Kate’s legal standpoint but can’t resist their ill-timed attraction to each other. Eban, having realized the jeopardy he’s in, plots to make certain that neither Zach nor Kate lives to see the death of Rebecca—and the end of his freedom.

I like the storyline but I wish it didn’t have all the unnecessary nonsense in between. The book could had been shorter and more thrills.

Great read. A complete storyline, no question left unanswered, unlike some books that urge you to read their next Novel. Loved the way the story moved along. No open gaps before it picked yo again.

I found the subject hard at times. I loved all the characters and felt he had dealt with the subject in a great and thoughtful way.

Another enjoyable read by Ms. Brown. Loved the characters and how they kept me glued to the pages. My only bad comment is they’re too short. She needs to add a few more pages so that I can read a little longer. Hahaha

The book was so engaging that I could not put it down. I haven’t read a book in awhile and I read it from cover to cover over 3 days. It had a little of everything - intrigue, romance and suspense.
  • Not one of Brown’s best…

I was thoroughly disappointed with this novel. It was very contrived and honestly a lot of unnecessary graphic sexual descriptions with too much vulgarity and profanity.. I did read from cover to cover but honestly am no impressed with this novel and the storyline/plot. I do hope Sandra picks better and more interesting plots to write about going forward with less of the unnecessary things mentioned above. But I am not a fan of this book. I wouldn’t recommend it.

My least favorite of all Sandra Brown’s books. The plot was weak. Her character development was shallow and inconsistent. I was never felt engaged in the story or with the characters. I was looking forward to finishing it so that I could read a good book. I was very disappointed and hope she does a better job on her next book.

By far one of the best books I’ve read this year. I was definitely enthralled as each paged turned eagerly wanting more. The element of surprise and unpredictability was great.
