HUGO AWARD FINALIST • NEW YORK TIMES READER PICK: 100 BEST BOOKS OF THE 21ST CENTURY • ONE OF THE YEAR’S BEST BOOKS: Parade, Newsweek, New York Public Library, Polygon, Shelf Awareness, She Reads, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

Hailed by USA Today as “an epic story of redemption, discovery, and cool speculative sci-fi,” Project Hail Mary is an irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver.

One of the best Sci-Fi books I have ever read. Lots of actual scientific research and studies are included in the narrative. It’s Equal to George Orwell’s 1984 for pure entertainment. The movie does not do it justice. A must read for any sci-if fan. N

Loved the book. Many parts of the book wanted to make me binge read to the next chapter. Great flow and painting the science world as accessible.

I kept seeing reviews complaining about how deeply Andy Weir dives into the science in this book. I didn’t mind it at all…in fact, I really enjoyed it. But what stood out most to me was the growing friendship between Ryland Grace and his alien companion, Rocky. Their bond stole the show and made the story incredibly moving. Highly recommend!

Saw the movie first, immediately came home and got the book. It was everything the movie got me hyped for and more. Lots of science that sounds very complicated, but don’t worry. Grace is a good teacher.

A complicated story of love, friendship and devotion with a big handfull of self discovery. The science reading was difficult but there was no way I was going to stop reading.
  • Peak. Good blend of funny and very good logical science stuff.

    By Kevin. 100% Normal human.
Haven’t gotten a chance to see the movie yet, but I hope it’s very similar to the book, because this book is so good. The way it sort of explains the science so logically that it got me like “yeah, that makes sense, I can see that” and it does it so well, where I’m putting the book down to do my own math and research to try and guess stuff, and its pretty funny, too.
  • An Amazing Story

It was an amazing story of trying to save humanity from the threat of extinction in an interesting sci-fi setting.

great story & great writing. And the scientific explanations and attempt toward accuaracy. i knew a bit from classes but good challenge for myself and i'd think for readers new to the concepts portrayed. i hope another reader enjoys it as well as i did.

Unlike so many other books I’ve read nothing has captured my attention more than this. I watched the movie, loved it and wanted more. This was the more I needed. Details on the stress, the feelings, the humor the heart ache. Thank you Andy for writing such detailed yet realistically imaginative books. I’m sure to read again.
