I’m a Witcher stan. I’ve been reading a lot of negative reviews about this book. While it’s a bit of a departure from the previous, I thought it was still interesting and necessary. I feel like the general consensus is that this is a filler book. I don’t know if I necessarily agree with that, especially because there’s great lore dumps if you’re into that. Plus if you’re a fan of the games, there’s plenty in here for you too~
First in the series I’ve not loved

Like much of War and Peace, the reader will be pleased to skip entire chapters of war mongering that have almost no place in the plot; and certainly don’t deserve the time allotted. This book was almost entirely a distraction from the rest of the story.
Absolutely stellar!

I love fantasy books of this type and the way the author writes his story keeps me in the realm of his fantasy world and makes me want to read more!
Utterly Riveting

I have read through The Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, A Season of Storms, Blood of Elves, and Time of Contempt. Every collection of short stories and each novel are fantastic in their own right, but for me, Baptism of Fire is the best of the series that I've read so far. As a fan of the Witcher games, I was overjoyed by the introductions of a couple of supporting characters in Baptism of Fire, the evolution of Geralt's personality, and how he reluctantly overcomes his lone wolf nature, finally accepting the help of others all devoted to a single cause. A highly recommended read.
