Description

Hot Wash | noun: The review held after military training and real-world operations facilitating growth and improvement; an honest evaluation of strengths and weaknesses

As a special operator in the US Navy's most elite unit and actively engaged in the Global War on Terrorism, Eddie Penney had achieved his childhood dream. He was the tip of the nation's spear, prepared for anything—except for becoming a single parent of three young children.

Eddie learned powerful lessons from the roles of warrior and father. In Unafraid, he shares his story, insight gained, and the truths exposed when you reflect, regroup, and commit to personal growth. You'll read about life as a Navy SEAL and the adolescent aspirations that led Eddie toward a military life, as well as the painful challenges that left him a single father with sole custody. You'll learn that old wounds—both seen and unseen—can heal, and redemption is always possible. Whether these struggles feel familiar or you're searching for inspiration, Unafraid is a must-read memoir revealing that each of us has a warrior within.

I loved this book. I’ve always admired Navy SEALs and wished I had been one but it just never has been in God’s plans for me. I listen to, read, and watch lots of things about them. I stumbled upon Eddie’s podcast interview on the Shawn Ryan show after first stumbling across the Shawn Ryan show one day and listening to D.J. Shipley’s interview. When I saw Eddie Penney Team 6/DEVGRU I automatically locked in. I listened and was so impressed most importantly by his testimony of coming to Christ, the change it’s made in his life, and beginning to live for Him. I’m a Christian and pastor so that resonated deeply with me. I then of course discovered the book and read it. I feel as almost like I’ve met Eddie’s just by reading this book. The thing that is so awesome about the whole story is that coming from the most elite and dedicated warriors on the planet that he became and a bold outspoken Christian. This is almost unheard of in a community of strong warrior mindsets that suppress emotions and try to be as hard as possible. Men in predominantly male and masculine work environments and social environments are many times like that. They won’t show weakness is the thought process. What I’ve learned from Eddie’s experience is that it’s not weakness. The real weakness is the hard heart and mind and suppression of everything good and loving and replacing it with something toxic. I learned that from Eddie’s life he has now found his true strength and that’s found only in Christ. There’s two misconceptions in the world that warrior’s can’t love and lover’s can’t fight and that is completely false. Many think to be a Christian you are weak and you just must love everyone and everything and that is false and Eddie is a perfect example of this in my opinion. It’s also so great to see that he steps up and owns his mistakes, faults sins, and biggest downfalls. I’m glad to hear him talk about his fatherhood and it being the most important job because it is. Good men of God who are fathers to their children and do their best is how to make a difference in this world and I believe that’s what I took from Eddie’s time as a single father and trying to provide for his family. Thank you Eddie Penney for your service and commitment to this great nation and to all those down range who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for sharing a much needed story in a broken world that needs Jesus. Prayers for you, your family, and your outreach for Christ.

This book is transparent, straight forward and compelling from the first page. Not only will this work remind you of why every American should be proud and thankful for our nation’s fine military, but it will challenge the way you approach day-to-day life from work to leadership and certainly parenting!
