  • Fun Trip Through Late 19th century Art

    By Fpiano
Interesting for those who love color, fantasy and some hilarious characters ( fiction) but more than a scoop of the truth as well. Toulouse-Lautrec is particularly interesting. Slip slidey and chaotic and funny.
  • Terrible

    By Emmet Aloysius
One of the worst books I have read which received high accolades from others. A silly, convoluted mess!...EAF
  • Sacre bleu

Absolutely engaging. What a treat to imagine Paris in the late 1800s. The author blends comic fiction and history masterfully. I wanted to be there and know these characters, as artists and people.
  • Sacre blue

    By Nslatz
Christopher Moore is so quirky and fun and in this novel he did a great job of mixing art history and fiction.

Very interesting book. it could actually make a fun movie! As usual, you wonder where in the world Christopher comes up with his ideas-- they are all so unique! If you are a Christopher Moore fan-- it is a must read. If not, after reading this you will now become a loyal fan and will voraciously read all the rest of his books. Then expect to be like the rest of us-- lusting for what next adventure Christopher Moore will take us on next. We all can't wait for his next book-- or shall I say---production!
  • Best book I've ever read!

    By Sachimoto
No joke...And I read a lot of books... Very quick wit, and fast read. Felt like you really were living in 1890's Paris, and privy to insight and intrigue involving some of the most famous painters in the world. And to be able to view the actual paintings described, makes it even better.
  • Hard to put down

    By Truckhead's Mom
I find myself inadvertently drawn to the art thrillers. I had a hard time putting the book down and loved the story. Great writing and great characters. If you enjoyed this book, you should check out "Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art" by Laney Salisbury
  • A Fun Read

    By JesusPenguin
Christopher Moore is at his best when using his unique wit and charms to craft historical fiction. As with Lamb, he has imbued the great artist of history with a humanity that is lost amongst the great textbooks and museum plaques of the world. while he does take great liberty with the history, it is always grounded in a sense of realism. Just like the impressionist painters in his book.
  • Wonderful

    By Artlover456
This was so good. The inclusion of the art was great. I can hardly wait to get to the Musee d'Orsay now.
