Description

The #1 New York Times bestseller from Stephen King—a novel about the fascination deadly things have for us and about our insistence on answers when there are none…

Since 1979, the state police of Troop D in rural Pennsylvania have kept a secret in the shed out behind the barracks. Ennis Rafferty and Curtis Wilcox had answered a strange call just down the road and came back with an abandoned 1953 Buick Roadmaster. Curt Wilcox knew old cars, and this one was…just wrong. As it turned out, the Buick 8 was worse than dangerous—and the members of Troop D decided that it would be better if the public never found out about it. Now, more than twenty years later, Curt’s son Ned starts hanging around the barracks and is allowed into the Troop D family. And one day he discovers the family secret—a mystery that begins to stir once more, not only in the minds and hearts of these veteran troopers, but out in the shed as well, for there’s more power under the hood than anyone can handle…

This is a great book! I've read most of King's stuff, and this was one of his few books that I'd missed when it came out. It's a wonderful read, with a shifting POV that tells the story through the eyes of several characters. That literary trick--to switch narrators repeatedly without losing the story's cohesion--is worth the admission price. But watch out! If you're one of those who needs everything wrapped up in a neat little package, this ain't the book for you. The end has no real 'answers.' SK FTW!

I've been reading Stephen King since I was a kid, and honestly, this is one of my least favorites. Don't get me wrong, this book does have some good parts in it, but nothing like I am used to seeing from him.

Ive read Stephen King novels since I was in ninth grade. I'm 45 now and a bit behind on some of his works but "Eight" is the kind of Stephen King novel I could live in if it just continued and continued and Steve never put the pen down. Like The Stand, I fell in love with the characters and when the story ended, I hated saying good bye. Thankx, Steve. Again for a wonderful story, introducing me to great people and being my closest friend since I was fifteen. I will always love u!

One of my SK favorites (have read all SK novels). No subplot or character wasted in moving the story, nonstop action. A dark and memorable story.
