Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Central Park Pact comes a reverse My Fair Lady for the modern era about a pampered and privileged Manhattan socialite who must teach an unpolished and denim-loving nobody from the Louisiana Bayou how to fit in with the upper crust of New York City. Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne.

Violet Townsend has always been a people pleaser. Raised in the privileged world of Upper East Side Manhattan, she always says the right things, wears the right clothes, and never rocks the boat. Violet would do anything for the people closest to her, especially her beloved grandmother. So when she asks Violet to teach the newly-discovered grandson of her friend how to fit in with New York City’s elite, Violet immediately agrees. Her goal? To get Cain Stone ready to take his place as heir to his family company…but to say he’s not exactly an eager student is an understatement.

Born and raised in rural Louisiana and now making his own way in New Orleans, Cain Stone is only playing along for the paycheck at the end. He has no use for the grandmother he didn’t know existed and no patience for the uppity Violet’s attempts to turn him into a suit-wearing, museum-attending gentleman.

But somewhere amidst antagonistic dinner parties and tortured tux fittings, Cain and Violet come to a begrudging understanding—and the uptight Violet realizes she’s not the only one doing the teaching. As she and Cain begin to find mutual respect for one another (and maybe even something more), Violet learns that blindly following society’s rules doesn’t lead to happiness…and that sometimes the best things in life come from the most unexpected places.

An easy read. Perfect for my beach vacation. I had fun visualizing who would play Cain and Violet on the big screen.

I could not put this book down, I had to keep reading. I finished reading after two days of purchase. That’s the thing, it is always like this after reading Layne’s books. The author’s attention to detail is unmatched. I found myself daydreaming after each break I forced myself to take. How could you not? She incorporated Manhattan & New Orleans - two of my favorite cities. I resonate with this story, I see myself in Violet and Cain. Their personalities and background story is what will reel you in the most. I highly recommend.

I had the biggest smile reading this fast-paced, addicting, witty, super entertaining, opposites-attract romance! This was an incredible story with these in-depth and complicated characters and I loved every second of it. I was immediately captivated and pulled in. Together they had such great interactions. I loved the building connection between the two. The tension, the push and the pull was freaking enticing. And their chemistry…. ah-may-zing! Cain Stone has recently been brought to New York by the grandmother he always wished he had growing up. But with her wishes for him to take over the family billionaire business, she also wants him to undergo a transformation to fit in her world. And what better person for the job, but Violet Townsend who is like her granddaughter and is perfectly poised and perfect in every way. Violet Townsend is a pampered privileged Manhattan socialite, working as an assistant for free for her older friend Edith. When Edith asks for assistance with her newly discovered grandson, Violet readily agrees to take on the unpolished denim loving hunk of a man from the Louisiana Bayou and help him fit in with the upper crust of New York. This is a charming, swoony, and a must-read delight. Sizzling with romantic tension, and sparkles with an electric connection. These two characters are absolute perfection. And I was unable to put this story down until I was finished as I rooted for their HEA!
  • Fun romance, lots of banter

Made in Manhattan is a great twist on My Fair Lady. Violet has only known riches in money but she is poor in family. Her parents are dead. Her grandmother is dead. Her only family is an unofficial grandmother by the name of Edith. She cannot say no to Edith, who is also all alone. When Edith asks her to help recreate her newfound grandson so he can pass muster with the board what is Edith to do but say yes. Cain never knew his father. Cain never knew a rich life. He does know bitterness. He does know anger. He does know how to be difficult and that is just what he will be. Tensions grow with every page turned. Violet refuses to give up no matter what Cain throws at her. Every time I thought that things were changing for the better, something would happen. Not always for the good. Usually not for the good. Somethings can't be stopped. The power of love is one of those things. The back and forth of emotions made the story a wonderful read. The chance of a happy ending had me flipping page after page. The romance had me swooning and feeling giddy. Cain just left me drooling and not wanting the story to end.

4 Stars! This was a cute book. I liked the main characters but I also didn’t like them. They were witty with funny banter but the “romance” wasn’t really there. Violet was a snob but got better near the end and Cain was mostly an angry jerk. If they fell in love, I didn’t see how it happened. That being said, it was a cute read and I enjoyed it. I laughed, I cried, and I reminded myself they were fictional characters and just finished the book. Haha! *I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*
