Absolute garbage read. Story was dull and never developed. Actually there were two pointless storylines in the book. I will be hard pressed to purchase another CJ Box novel.

2 Stars. Disappointed in this one. Box didn’t live up the the remarkable level I have come to expect. It felt rushed and I had high expectations for the Thanksgiving setting that never came close. It almost seemed like he put two short stories together and called it a novel. That said, the Pickett series is remarkably good. I’ve effectively caught up with just the current one to read. Then it we mean waiting a year. I hope Box gets back where he belongs. Are his other series good? I really didn’t think very much of the current TV series based on them.

Cheap political tale disguised as mystery story. Sadly, C.J.Box became one of the politically poisoned writers and his books are getting harder and harder to enjoy.

Was ok until the author made some political comparisons to Trump & his family - derogatory and unnecessary….won’t be reading anymore of his stuff….

I usually love Joe Picket stories~ not so much this time. Not much suspense or adventure- no interesting characters and a whole lot of Marybeth. Reads more like a short story than a novel. Sadly I just didn’t enjoy this one much.
  • A big fan’s disappointment

I have read every book in the series and eagerly awaited each new release, but I did not particularly care for this one. I have enjoyed the previous books in the series for their excellent character development and stories centered around Joe’s life as a game warden in Wyoming and Nate’s larger than life adventures as an outlaw turned falconer entrepreneur. For the first two thirds of this book, I received nothing of what I was looking for. While the end was reasonably interesting, nothing in this book compared to the ten or more prior novels. This book took me a month and a half to finish—just could not get motivated. I will not be in a hurry for the next volume but I will miss the series.

I have every book in this series. Box has bought into the fascists trying to destroy this country. Done.
