Paul Miller’s insights on the differing impacts of cynicism and hope on prayer was a great help to me. His bashing of psychology warrants some demerits (e.g., he completely misrepresents Kubler Ross’s “stages of grief” model), but the book still warrants a five-star rating. It is that helpful! Given the family trials he reveals as he tells his story, I can imagine he and his wife have met more than several counselors schooled in assured hopelessness and faithless cynicism.
